Week 1 results

Posted May 20, 2006 at 09:47 AM

It’s time to let everyone know the results of my first week in the 20/20 Lifestyles program. I successfully completed week one of my 32-week program on Wednesday. I managed to keep to the diet without getting hungry, and made it through the workouts without hurting myself, and these accomplishments alone have been very motivating.

I’d like to once again thank everyone for their encouragement, and this week, I especially want to thank Deanna Herbert, Nadia Plascencia, Pavel Szuszkiewicz and Anand Paranjpe for joining me in a workout or two at the club. I’m doing very well in the sessions with my personal trainer — just having someone there makes me push myself harder than when I’m alone. So naturally, having friends join me for the unsupervised sessions helps a lot. I’d also like to thank Laura Baldwin and Randy Kern for having shakes available at their wedding reception, which was extremely thoughtful and very much appreciated. Thanks, everyone!

Chart of my results in the 20/20 Lifestyles Program

At this point, I’ve lost 16.2 pounds, going from 265 on May 1st to 248.8 pounds at my weigh-in on Wednesday, so I’m off to a good start towards my goal of 190. This first result covers a 2-week period, starting about a week before I began the program, and ending at the end of the first week of my diet. My weekly weigh-ins happen on Wednesday nights, when I meet with my dietitian. It will take me a few days after that to post the results here, because I’m usually pretty beat when I get home on the weeknights.

Of course, these initial results are not representative of what’s to come — a lot of what I’ve lost is water weight, but even so, I feel great!

My exercise routine is still the same at this point, although the resistance setttings on the cardio machines and the weights for the strength building sessions are both increasing. The next step in my diet will be the introduction of vegetables, which I could have started this week. Because I’m doing well on the diet I’m on, and because I’m in the longer 32-week program, I asked if I could stay on the first week diet for another week, which is what I’ll be doing.

I’ll certainly be looking forward to my first salad next Wednesday night for the season finale of Lost — if the survivors happen to find about 16 pounds of me on the island, they can keep it!

Way to go Dan. That graph is looking steep. I will join you at the gym once I am back. I will have a few to lose after this trip for sure… ;)

KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK
KNOW IT MUST BE A MUCH BIGGER CHALLANGE THEN WHAT YOU ARE SHARING
DAY BY DAY CAN GET YOU DOWN SOMETIMES MAKING IT DIFFICULT TO STAY FOCUSED ESPICALLY WHEN YOU ARE TIRED BUT I KNOW YOU COULD ALWAYS DO WHAT YOU SET OUT TO DO
IT S NICE THAT YOUR FRIENDS JOIN YOU ON SOME WORKOUTS HOW VERY NICE OF THEM
