HP Pavilion computer

Posted May 2, 1999 at 09:54 PM

Even though I’ve been working with computers since the mid-1980’s, I’ve never had a computer of my own at home. We didn’t have one at home when I was growing up, I didn’t have one at all in college, and although I have had laptops provided to me by employers since college, it just isn’t the same as having one of your own.

With the exception of Quicken files and mail, I don’t have personal stuff on work computers. I don’t install games on them, because more often than not, that tends to cause problems.

So, tonight I bought my very first computer from Circuit City. Here’s what I got:

  • HP Pavilion 8490 computer, Intel Pentium III 500 MHz processor, 128MB RAM, 19GB hard drive, 24x CD-RW drive, 4x DVD drive, 3.5” floppy drive, 56Kbps modem, 8MB ATI RagePro video,
  • NEC LCD1500M LCD monitor, 1024×768 resolution

I must say that I especially like having an LCD monitor. It’s not as fast as a CRT, but the space it saves on my what would otherwise be very cramped IKEA desk is worth it.
